BASIC INFORMATION
• Felsőrajk settlement lies 27 kms from Nagykanizsa. Due to its favourable geographical location it has been settled from the earliest times. The most ancient finds from the territory of Felsőrajk date back to the late Bronse Age. The settlement is first mentioned under the name of Royk in 1019. In 1239 the Premonstratesian Order got the ownership of the place. The original village was located further from the place where it is now. In the 16 th century Felsőrajk had a wooden fort as well. The settlement was invaded by the Turks. 16 people from the village took part in the War of Independence in 1848 - 49. Peasants also wanted the ownership of the lands and forests. In the 1860 s they had to work for the landowners to make a living. Before 1945 five landowners had most of the lands in the area. Animal husbandry and farming was considered an important activity. The population has gradually decreased in the settlement. Out of 874 people 4% is unemployed now. In 1962 a new elementary school was built in the village. In the 1960 s Felsőrajk had considerable cultural life.
• Infrastructure: 90 % of the roads are paved, most of the apartments are with running water, 30 % of the people are on the phone. Garbage collection is also provided. Traditionally the people here made their living from farming and animal husbandry. There are 3 limited companies, 27 private entrepreneurs, 2 people are involved in industry, 6 in agriculture, 9 in trade and 13 in service industry. Among the sights of the village we should mention the St Ann Church. In the development plan of the settlement, road repairs, gas and sewage construction and a new gymnasium play an important part. The village is easily accessible by bus and by train.
